Autumn leaves

I said a prayer for you today.

That you will amount to all that I have faith you will amount to.

I sent the memories away,

On a boat I knew would sink, deep into the blue.

You were never really the articulate kind.

So I spoke for the both of us.

I stayed afloat for the both of us.

I carried hope for the both of us.

I held on like leaves in fall,

To whatever was left.

But we had to fall sometime,

And I know it’s ok, I have no regret.

That little yellow leaf that floated in the wind,

I caught it.

I caught it in my hand, I memorized its veins.

And then I let it go.
